Pacifico Bar Away Day Golf in Costa de Caparica near Lisbon
On our first 'away day' golf trip to compete for the Away Day Cup, four Portuguese competitors (Aurelio, Claudio, Paulo and Rashid from Lebanon) together with four English (Adriana 'boom boom baby', Russel, Dave and the King Kenny) went to do battle for the cup at Aroeira golf club. The competition was scheduled for two rounds of golf with a format based on the Ryder cup where 8 points each day could be won, but only Mr Organiser could understand how the points were allocated. The competiton was arranged to be played at Aroeira Golf club the first day and Quinta do Peru golf club the second.
The first day was sunny and warm, and the golf course was in magnificent condition. Rashid from Lebanon got on the first tee and played like God for 12 holes and then the wheels fell off, Big Al came to the rescue and continued where Rashid left off. Rashid then got a second wind and pulled level with Dave to make a half. The King kenny had no answer to Big Al on the last six holes who then walked across the water on the last hole in a God like manner to finish Kenny off.
At the end of the first day the results where Portugal 4.5 points and England 3.5 points. A few beers where drunk in the 19th Hole and we all went to enjoy a superb evening dinner at O' Barbas restaurant in Costa de Carparica.
Unfortunately the second days golf was washed out due to the Heavy storms in the Lisbon area so we all came home early. - to be continued!!
